Inspired by Zen gardens, Sando Bokkusu literally translates in Japanese to Sandbox - its surface is a catalyst to the imagination creating a Zen-like state exactly as Karesansui gardens (as they are technically known) are renowned the world over for. Sando Bokkusu functions as a stylish, design-forward, low center table as well as, a masterful therapeutic wonder immersing one into Zen-like Mindfulness; a blank palette that becomes uniquely experiential with each curious participant.

The table holds the sand within its solid eco-friendly wood frame which rises enough to neatly maintain it within the confines of the table itself. Within the table’s center rests another stationary frame that serves as a setting for the four interchangeable planks that provide a solid surface, as well as over the sand, when entertaining; and when not in use can be neatly stored within the table’s center again. Reflecting the Japanese aesthetic principle underlying dry landscape gardens or yohaku-no-bi, meaning “the beauty of blank space.” once again. Sando Bokkusu has upcycled aluminum legs set at 90-degree angles 10 inches in height (14” total height) and each table will come with two small wooden Rakes for creating designs in the sand, stimulating interaction, meditation, and enjoyment.

The symmetrical layout of Sando Bokkusu uses a clever play on dimensions to maximize its surface area while allowing for a fun artistic expression or meditative stimuli on its sand top. In today’s fast-paced world a retreat from stress awaits in the living room where Sando Bokkusu is best situated. Hence, we conclude, be a kid and draw in the sand or be an adult and meditate- whichever one you choose Sando Bokkusu is sure to serve the purpose well.
